The old coffee shop was place where Jim, Joe, and Bob would always read the paper and have a good laugh. They guys would always meet at 6:15 am, Joe was always late.(He had a reason every time, whether it be the car or Katie telling him to do something.) Nevertheless the guys shared life together at this little quiet coffee shop in Portland. Jim was a devout Catholic. Joe was devout Christian. Bob never quite knew what he believed but he did know religion was important.
Then one nice October Morning, the crisp air could be felt through the shop when one would enter the door. It was going to be a beautiful sunny day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Bob who always the first arrived was surprised to see Joe wife and Jim talking about something. Joe’s wife name was Katie. Now Katie had always invited Jim and Bob to church, to meals, and for the Sunday afternoon football games. There was something different about Katie this morning. First of all Katie would only come if Joe had the day off from work. Secondly Katie and Joe always came together. They usually had a big omelet and pancakes on the table by the time both Bob and Jim arrived. (Joe would always order doughnuts when Katie wasn’t around). Katie had a look of despair on her face. Jim looked very concern.
As Bob walked towards them. He had this puzzled look on his face. Then he saw Katie, tears trickling down her face. Then Bob immediately knew what had happen. Bob looked at Katie with face of empathy. Bob had recently lost his wife, Lisa, in a tragic car accident. Bob began weep bitterly at the situation because so much grief was coming up. Bob never properly grieved over his wife. Then Katie immediately stood up and gave Bob warm embrace. Katie looked at Bob and said, “Joe really would like to see you at the hospital.” Bob looked backed at Jim. Jim gave a slight nod and picked up his jacket. Then they both walked out of the coffee shop.
As they left there little coffee shop, there was ring. That ring always seemed better when Joe walked through the door. The ring resound with emotion of joy and emotions of laughter. Now the ring resound with deep, deep, sorrow.
What things in life do we take for granted? How come these stories bring sorrow, or sad emotions? What about Bob? How come it takes tragedy for love to show up? Bob is going to see Christ through Joe. We know that because Joe his devout. Are we showing Christ in life always or is going to take something tragic?
